I have been joining battle on twitter. Two scientists both tried the 'aluminum is ubiquitous' dismissal. Well yes, but bound by silica. So, in a reversal of a common trope I tell them that suggesting aluminum is safe because it's abundant is like saying that chlorine gas is safe because salt is abundant. I don't think either of them enjoyed that at all.

No-one has mentioned tea to me, but surely one could easily counter with the fact that there are plants that can handle soil with all kinds of metal pollution? I wish that my discussions could be so genteel.

So...it's still true that a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing?! ;-)

Thanks very much for your reply. I recently received the book and had only read the first few chapters describing risks of Aluminum. It is such important work. Now with some scanning ahead (an index would be helpful in a future edition) I see your chapter nine describing the benefits of drinking silica-rich water daily.

I do not, however, see any mention of effects of boiling that water on the silica chemistry - if any.

Also I was surprised, and of course disappointed, to see your sweeping dismissal of the scheme of making ones own silicon-rich mineral water. (p58) I discovered your book and Crouse's at about the same time and he seemed like a serious chemist (and frankly not such a great writer). I see that many unhelpful and possibly dangerous claims about DIY silica-water are on the internet but - without requesting a judgment of his motives or capabilities...

...can I ask if you are familiar with Crouse's work and would still say, in response to the notion that "...you can make your own silicon-rich mineral water" that "You cannot."

thanks much for your response Dr. Exley...

and thanks more for your continuing efforts to get this information out to the public.

hi Dr, I hope this isn't too out of place to post but someone on twitter has referred me to the study by Lukiw et al. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6550484/ as a counter to your study, may I ask if you have any comments on it that I can pass on?

I enjoyed reading this, thank you. I have a couple of questions when you get a minute:

You write of these tea plants in the past tense. So hopefully we don't have tea leaves out there now with concentrations of aluminum?

Forgive me if you have answered this next question in another essay. Just read an article about all the problems with plastic water bottles (like what Fiji is bottled in). I've was drinking Evian but have switched over mostly to Fiji to help detox in case I need it, but squirm every day about the dang plastic bottles. In your opinion, are microplastics/plastic chemicals less dangerous than aluminum in the body? I'm 68 years old, so neurological deficits is concerning.
