I am afraid that this post is going to be uninteresting for those whom are regular followers of my substack or, of course, have read my book. However, I promise to make these types of blogs infrequent and as helpful as possible.
What is a silicon-rich mineral water?
Any mineral water, still or sparkling, where the content of silicon stated on the bottle is at least 30 mg/L. Note 1mg/L is the same as 1ppm. Most mineral waters use the term ‘silica’ and not silicon. Some, specifically German or Austrian mineral waters, may use the term ‘meta-silicate’ and not silicon. These are not scientifically accurate terms, they are historical, but any mineral water with at least 30 mg/L ‘silica’ or ‘meta-silicate’ as stated on the bottle is a silicon-rich mineral water.
Why does it need to be silicon-rich to be effective?
Silicon-rich mineral waters contain silicic acid. If you are interested to know more about silicic acid then watch this video. The structure of silicic acid is not so very different to water such that when you drink a silicon-rich mineral water the silicic acid in your gut follows water into your blood and tissues. Our research over four decades has shown that silicic acid binds aluminium hydroxide to form hydroxyaluminosilicates. So, silicic acid in the blood binds aluminium hydroxide (see my recent post on the blood aluminium problem) to form hydroxyaluminosilicates.
The stability of the hydroxyaluminosilicates is wholly dependent upon the concentration of silicic acid in the blood. If the concentration is too low (for example, as might be found in regular mineral waters) then the hydroxyaluminosilicates may break up almost as soon as they form. We know from extensive research including several clinical trials that silicon-rich mineral waters facilitate the excretion of aluminium in urine. To achieve this hydroxyaluminosilicates formed in the blood must persist for long enough to be filtered by the kidney so that aluminium is passed to the urine. Silicon-rich mineral waters ensure that the concentration of silicic acid in blood is high enough to ensure that the stability of hydroxyaluminosilicates is sufficient for them to live long enough to be filtered by the kidney. Hence the removal of aluminium from the blood in urine.
What about silicon/silica supplements and other silicon-based products?
When I discovered the unique inorganic chemistry between aluminium and silicic acid, nearly forty years ago, I also began a search for products capable of dissolving in water to release significant quantities of silicic acid. A silicic acid pill no less.
Over the years we tested many silicon-based products, some of which were also tested in human trials. Many of my undergraduate project students will recall both carrying out and participating in these trials. We never found a single product that could hold a candle to silicon-rich mineral waters bought off the shelf at the local supermarket. Silicon-rich mineral waters are ‘nature’s’ solution to the toxicity of aluminium in humans. There are myriad so called smart or functional waters available to buy in the shops but, notice, no company has created a silicon-rich mineral water.
I can only tell you what I know to be true. However, if you are curious about the possible efficacy of any silica/silicon supplement to remove aluminium from the body then ask the manufacturer or supplier of this product to provide peer-reviewed published evidence of such efficacy. We have carried out several clinical trials to demonstrate that silicon-rich mineral waters are effective in facilitating the removal of aluminium from the human body. Follow the science and this time you can believe and accept its validity.
When should I drink a silicon-rich mineral water?
I have said many times and including in posts in this substack that silicon-rich mineral waters should not be considered a classical ‘detox’ therapies. Better, they are part of life’s philosophy for healthy living. Personally, I drink up to 1L/day each and every day and I always will. I do this in the knowledge that it will help me to keep my body burden of aluminium to a minimum. It will allow me to continue to be as healthy as possible in the aluminium age.
I hope that you have found this ‘Frequently Answered Questions’ substack helpful. If you have suggestions for future blogs in this category then do feel free to let me know. No promises mind!
Here is something I put together for my friends and posted on my general purpose Facebook page, because my wife & family (and Alzheimer’s MDs) has been amazed at my progress.
Alzheimer’s is a disease that was unknown until the early 1900s, when a German Physician, Doctor Alzheimer, dissected the brain of a patient that had died of dementia. In the brain, he found the plaques and tangles that are now the universally accepted post-mortal “signature “ of the disease that bears his name.
PhD CHRISTOPHER EXLEY, aka “Mr. Aluminum” has written a somewhat whimsically book titled book… “IMAGINE YOU ARE AN ALUMINUM ATUMN.” In this book, he discusses various aspects of his chosen scientific studies.
One extraordinarily important aspect of Dr. Exley’s conclusions, after years of study, is that Aluminum is ALWAYS found in the Alzheimer’s brain’s “Plaques” and “Tangles.”
He has come to the conclusion that Aluminum is TOXIC to humans and that it *causes* Alzheimer’s!
Since we now know what causes Alzheimer’s, it *should* be straightforward to find a treatment… right?
Well… maybe not! First off, only a few MDs are “on board” with these findings. Mostly… it can be reasoned… because this is not what they learned in Medical School!
The process of removing unwanted metals from the body is called Chelation. In this process, supervised by an MD, a variety of chemicals is inserted into a vein. The chemicals’ function is to remove unwanted metals, like lead, arsenic, aluminum and others, from the body.
Only in major metropolitan areas do we find chelation laboratories. They are expensive… several hundred dollars per session, and each session takes several hours. Results are slow. And, because chelation is non-selective, the removal of Aluminum is S L O W!
But… what if there was a SIMPLE, SAFE and INEXPENSIVE method to orally chelate ONLY ALUMINUM from the body?
THERE IS !
OSA is a safe chemical compound, taken by mouth, that has the almost-unique ability of *dissolving* bodily Aluminum. Once it is dissolved, the body’s natural processes take over. The now-dissolved aluminum is *ejected* from the body as perspiration (sweat) and in urine (pee-pee).
Best of all, there are many *commercially-available* bottled waters that contain enough OSA to *safely* dissolve bodily aluminum so it can be *naturally eliminated*.
Stateside, the best *available* (and second-best… worldwide) is FIJI water. Many retail stores stock it. It is also available online via AMAZON.
HOW DO WE KNOW IT WORKS? The medical community has developed a highly accurate Alzheimer’s screening test called the MMSE. This is is a verbally administered 30 question test.
According to Wikipedia, “Any score of 24 or more (out of 30) indicates a normal cognition. Below this, scores can indicate severe (≤9 points), moderate (10–18 points) or mild (19–23 points) cognitive impairment.”
A couple of years ago, as part of my annual physical examination, I took the test and “flunked” it, with a score in the low 20s! I was referred to an Alzheimer’s Specialist. He repeated the test and confirmed it.
I HAD BEGINNING STAGE ALZHEIMER’S!
I began reading about this disease, and learned the information that I presented at the beginning of this note.
1. Aluminum *causes* Alzheimer’s.
2. Drinking OSA water dissolves Aluminum so the body can eliminate it.
I immediately took two actions:
1. I *discarded* ALL the Aluminum cooking utensils in the household and *tossed* ALL our Aluminum foil.
2. I began drinking at least a liter/quart of Fiji water daily.
The result? At my last *two* annual visits to see my Alzheimer’s MDs, I scored 28 and 29 out of 30… HIGH NORMAL!
AMI I “CURED” OF ALZHEIMER’S?
I don’t know. But at age 82, I and my bride of 30 years just returned from a vacation trip… circumnavigating the world. (And I knew where I was while traveling, and remember where we went… including riding on an Elephant!)
Will this approach “work” for everyone? Again, I don’t know. But my Alzheimer’s MD’s are baffled.
That’s OK. *I* am NOT BAFFLED!
Ah, thanks, Dr. Exley. Great little explanation for anyone. I try to drink this water often but I cannot buy it locally, so can only get enough for a few days at a time, but then, some is better than none and as you say, we are living in an aluminium age, where it is everywhere, in water and food and pharma products. Very hard to avoid these days. Also, hoping that the environment will get cleaned up and the use of such a toxic element in industry and food/water is not going to stop any time soon. By the way I drink Fiji water and it says on the bottle 90mg/Lt. That is quite a lot.
